Saturday 29/07/2023 – Fencing events on this weekend

This coming Saturday we have the following events happening across 2 venues:

  1. Saturday 29/07/2023 – NSWSFL U14 Foil Individual Competition:
    Venue: 
    Barker College (Rosewood Pavilion)
    Start time: 8:00am – 12:00pm
  2. Saturday 29/07/2023 – NSWSFL U16 Epee Team Premiership Round 2, U19 Epee Team Premiership Round 2 (+Medal Ceremonies):
    Venue:
     St Andrew’s Cathedral School
    Start Time: 8:00am to 12:00pm

Students will also be added to the relevant rolls in Clipboard.

To all fencers participating:

  • Please make sure you arrive at least 30 minutes before your start time to check in with the teacher/coach and Director of Tournament (DT) to get your name marked off, warm up and prepare for your first match.
  • Bring your SBHS tracksuit jacket and wear the SBHS soccer sock on your back leg. You should have a full length white sock on your front leg (no exposed skin) when fencing.
  • Besides your uniform and gear, also bring a towel, water bottle and healthy snack to recharge between matches.

  1. Saturday 22/07/2023: NSWSFL U14 Epee Team Premiership Round 2 (+ medal ceremony), U16 Epee Team Premiership Round 1:
    Venue:
     St Andrew’s Cathedral School
    Start Time: 8:00am to 12:00pm
  2. Saturday and Sunday 22-23/07/2023 – AFF Australian Senior Schools Championships (all weapons):
    Venue:
     NSW Fencing Centre
    Saturday Start Time:
    9:00am – Boy’s Foil Individuals followed by Teams
    Sunday Start Time:
    9:00am – Boy’s Epee Individuals followed by Teams
    10:00am – Boy’s Sabre Individuals followed by Teams

  • If you are fencing in the Australian Schools Championships, it is highly recommended to get your weapons/equipment checked on Friday afternoon to avoid queues on your match day!

Try Weights for Junior Fencers this Thursday 20/07/2023

Junior fencers are required to attend Try Weights during junior sport on Thursday 20/07/2023.

Year 7 (1pm to 2pm): Please go straight to the Weights Room in the SBHS Gymnasium where Kurt Rich will run you through the Try Weights program. If you wish, you can leave your bags at the COLA as you will be returning to Fencing training at 2pm. Fencing roll call will be held at 2pm in the COLA for year 7 fencers.

Year 8 & 9 (2pm to 3pm): Attend Fencing roll call as per usual and continue with Fencing training until 2pm. You will then move off to the weights room in the Gym where Kurt Rich will run the Try Weights program. If you wish, you can leave your bags at the COLA and pick them up when the program ends at 3pm.

Please remember to bring a water bottle to Try Weights and let me know if there are any issues or questions.

Welcome back to Term 3! Fencing Training is on Monday 17/07/2023 – 3:30pm to 5pm

Welcome back to Term 3, everyone!

Monday 17/07/2023 is a Staff Development day, but after polling the students and coaches, we agreed to run Squad Training (3:30pm to 5pm) as we have important competitions coming up.
Furthermore, all Squad Fencers and parents have been sent an email regarding Australian Senior Schools Fencing Championships. Please make sure you’ve read that information and contact me if there are any issues or questions.

More information regarding Senior Nationals will be shared soon after Monday’s training concludes to determine team compositions.
