Medical Exemption
If a student is injured and unable to attend training and/or fixtures due to injury or a general medical condition, the student must:
- In the case of a one-off injury, provide a note explaining the absence to the Head Teacher of Sport using the email: absences.sport@sbhs.nsw.edu.au
Please also Carbon Copy (CC) the MIC of Fencing (HuynhD) in that email so that the MIC is kept in the loop. - In the case of an injury preventing attendance at more than one training session or fixture, provide a ‘Sydney Boys High School Sports Injury Report and Medical Certificate’ signed by the student’s doctor. This document can be downloaded from the school’s Parent Portal and, once completed, must be provided to the Head Teacher of Sport.
- Alternatively, see the school’s physiotherapist for evaluation. The physiotherapist is available on Monday mornings between 7:00am and 9:00am in the school gymnasium.
A medical exemption may then be authorised by the Head Teacher of Sport.
Please note that:
- A medical note given to the coach or front office does not exempt a student from training and/or fixtures.
- If absent from training or fixtures, students need to follow the protocols outlined on our school website in the ‘Sports Policy’ tab.
- Students on medical exemption are not granted permission to go home during school sport unless given authority by the Deputy Principal via an early leavers pass.
The MIC of Sport, Mr Marcos, has created a document to help make you aware of your sport commitments. Even though Fencing is not a GPS sport, we are treated like one in the eyes of the School Sports Committee so we must hold ourselves to the same level of respect and commitment to our training.
