No training on Wednesday 04/05/2022 due to teachers strike

As you may have heard, the teachers strike next Wednesday will impact our student attendance at school that day. After surveying our fencers during training today, there was insufficient interest to run a training session next Wednesday. Therefore, training will be cancelled for next Wednesday (04/05/2022).

I encourage all of our fencers to do some form of exercise at home that day to keep up your training routine.

Please contact Mr Huynh if there are any issues or questions.

Saturday 30/04/2022 – Fencing events for Foil, Epee and Sabre Squad Fencers

This Saturday we have 3 events happening across 3 venues:

  1. NSWSFL Foil Team Premiership Round 1 :
    Venue:
    SBHS COLA
The SBHS Fencing Parent committee will be hosting morning tea for the fencers of the attending schools (SBHS, SGS, SICR and AAS). Spectators are welcome, but must remain outside the COLA fencing area.
  2. NSWSFL Epee Individual Round 2:
    Venue: St Andrew’s Cathedral School
Spectators are welcome, but must do so from the viewing gallery on the 8th floor.
  3. NSWFA Sabre Intermediate School Championship:
    Venue: NSW Fencing Centre
Proof of vaccination restrictions have been lifted. Spectators are now welcome but they request only one spectator per fencer attending.

As per sensible hygiene measures, we strongly recommend all attending persons to wear a face mask (unless you’re actively fencing) and to maintain social distance wherever possible.

For the list of participating SBHS fencers and additional details about each event, please visit:
https://sbhsfencing.com/2022-results/

To all fencers participating:

  • Please make sure you arrive at least 30 minutes before your start time to check in with the teacher and Director of Tournament (DT)
  • Besides your uniform and gear, also bring a towel, water bottle and healthy snack to recharge between matches

We wish our fencers all the best for the events this weekend!

Please contact Mr Huynh if there are any issues or questions.

Welcome back to Term 2!

We hope you had a safe, productive and restful break. We’re gearing up for a very busy start to Term 2 with a few concurrent events happening on the first Saturday of competitions/events. Details will be posted shortly.

We’re also aware that year 9 are on exams this week so will miss the after school training sessions as per examination exemption policy. However, if your study schedule permits, we strongly recommend and welcome your attendance to the extra training sessions. Studies have shown better academic outcomes over the long term when you make time for exercise along with your studies! A reminder that year 9 are expected to attend the school sport session on Thursday as this is not part of the exemption policy.

Another firm reminder that all Squad fencers are to sign up and pay for the NSWFA Junior Registered membership and email Mr Huynh with your membership number (eg. NSW-123) ASAP.

Thank you to those who have already completed the task. The fencers who have not yet done so run the risk of being scratched from the upcoming NSWFA competitions so please get it done right away!

Stay tuned for more information regarding this weekend’s events.
Cheers,
Mr Dat Huynh
