Newbie Junior (years 7 – 9) Fencers: Planned Newbie Friendly Fencing Event with Newington College on Saturday 02/07/2025

To all Newbie Junior Fencers,

We have a planned Friendly Fencing Event with Newington College on next Saturday 02/07/2025 for our Newbie Junior Fencers (all weapons).

Newington will be hosting this event at their Concordia Gallery venue next to their main campus in Stanmore. Students will fence in teams to gain experience with the 45 hit relay format. We anticipate that the time commitment will be approximately 8am to 12pm. Coaching and staffing resources will be allocated to help supervise and manage the event. We may call on volunteer Senior Squad Fencers to assist with mentoring on the day as well.

Please make sure to attend the Development Training session afterschool on Thursday to borrow electric fencing equipment. Please bring a big enough sports bag to carry the additional fencing gear (lame, body wire, weapon).

Clipboard has been updated with the rolls for this weekend.

For Fencers competing in the AFF Australian Senior School Championships, you are advised to do your weapons check at the venue the day before your event to avoid long queues on the day of your event. Please check: https://www.ausfencing.org/tribe-events/2025-australian-senior-schools-championships/ for more information and operating times for weapons check (equipment control).

Senior A teams, please make sure you wear the High rugby (striped) sock to identify you as a 1st Grade Fencer. If you don’t already own one, please see me in my staff room tomorrow (Friday) to get one. All other fencers should wear the High soccer (mostly blue with one brown stripe on top) sock on your back leg.
Please remember to bring a towel, water bottle, snacks and sports jacket for podium photos.

We wish our fencers all the best for this weekend!
Please contact me if there are any issues or questions.

Monday 21/07/2025 – Welcome back to Term 3 – U16 and U19 Squad Training is on from 1pm to 3pm

Welcome back to Term 3!

We have one week to go before School Nationals – I encourage all senior squad fencers to attend the allocated training session on Monday 21/07/2025 from 1pm to 3pm as coaching resources have been assigned.

As this is still a staff development day, attendance is voluntary and the roll will still be taken. We encourage all senior squad fencers to attend to help prepare for the upcoming competition – for those new to national level competitions, please ask your coaches to prepare you for special rules such as when to ask for video reffing, passivity rules etc.

Please borrow all relevant equipment as needed using the QR code system. Mr Huynh will be available to help with internal weapon/gear checks on Wednesday during the training session.

Please contact Mr Huynh if there are any issues or questions.

End on Term 2 Holiday Training

Holiday training has been scheduled for the following sessions:

Wednesday 09/07/2025
12:30pm to 2:30pm: Development Training
3pm to 5pm: Squad Training

Monday 14/07/2025
3pm to 5pm: Squad Training (U16 and U19 Squads only – due to limited coaching resources available)

Coaching resources have been allocated and Mr Huynh will be supervising. Rolls have been updated on Clipboard. We encourage our fencers to stay active over the holiday break for their physical and mental health, and for Squad Fencers to prepare for the upcoming competitions.

Please let me know if there are any issues or questions.
