Welcome back to Term 3! Fencing Training is on Monday 17/07/2023 – 3:30pm to 5pm

Welcome back to Term 3, everyone!

Monday 17/07/2023 is a Staff Development day, but after polling the students and coaches, we agreed to run Squad Training (3:30pm to 5pm) as we have important competitions coming up.
Furthermore, all Squad Fencers and parents have been sent an email regarding Australian Senior Schools Fencing Championships. Please make sure you’ve read that information and contact me if there are any issues or questions.

More information regarding Senior Nationals will be shared soon after Monday’s training concludes to determine team compositions.

Holiday Training – Wednesdays 05/07/2023 and 12/07/2023

Holiday fencing training has been scheduled both Wednesdays of the break to help keep our fencers fit and sharpen their skills to be ready for Term 3 events.

Date: Wednesdays 05/07/2023 and 12/07/2023
Newbie/Development Training Session: 12:30pm to 2:30pm

For our new and recreational fencers to get focused attention to level up your skills quickly!

Squad Training Session: 3pm to 5pm
For our Squad fencers to stay fit and sharp, ready for competitions in Term 3! The Senior National Schools event is on the first weekend back in Term 3 so we highly recommend our senior teams to attend training. Squad fencers are permitted to participate in the earlier session pending manageable numbers of attendance.

All holiday training is voluntary. We will have coaching resources allocated for these sessions.

Please make sure you bring the following:

  • Your fencing gear
  • Water bottle and towel
  • Your own lunch (canteen will not be open!)

Monday 19/06/2023 – School Photo Day – Fencing Large Group Photos Scheduled

Fencing Large Group photos are scheduled on Monday’s School Photo Day (19/06/2023).

Smaller Squad/Team photos will be taken during Winter Sport Photo Day later in the year.

Please meet at the outdoor basketball courts and be ready 15 minutes prior to your photo scheduled for the following times:

1:20pm – Development Fencing Group
1:25pm – Squad Fencing Group
(Mr Huynh will bring the Roberta Nutt Shield down)

Please wear full formal school uniform (blazers recommended) and have your student ID card with you for scanning!

Saturday and Sunday 17-18/06/2023 – Fencing events on this weekend

This coming Saturday and Sunday we have the busiest weekend of the season with the following events happening across 3 venues:

  1. NSWSFL U14 Epee Team Premiership Round 1:
    Venue: St Andrew’s Cathedral School
    Start Time: 8:00am to 12:00pm
  2. NSWFA AJ Rae Senior Team Championships (All weapons):
    Venue: NSW Fencing Centre
    Men’s Epee Start Time: 8:00am
    Men’s Foil Start Time: 8:00am
    Men’s Sabre Start Time: 10:30am
  3. Saturday and Sunday 17-18/06/2023 – AFF Australian Intermediate Schools Championships (all weapons) – Melbourne, Victoria:
    Venue: Victorian State Fencing Centre
    Saturday Start Time:
    10:30am – Boy’s Foil Individuals followed by Teams
    Sunday Start Time:
    9:00am – Boy’s Epee Individuals followed by Teams
    11:30am – Boy’s Sabre Individuals followed by Teams

To all fencers participating:

  • Please make sure you arrive 45 minutes before your start time to check in with the teacher/coach and Director of Tournament (DT) to get your name marked off the roll, warm up and prepare for your first match.
  • Bring your SBHS tracksuit jacket and wear the SBHS soccer sock on your back leg. You should have a full length white sock on your front leg (no exposed skin) when fencing.
  • Besides your uniform and gear, also bring a towel, water bottle and healthy snack to recharge between matches.

Mr Huynh will be supervising the fencers in Melbourne this weekend. Please make sure everyone does their part, uphold our school values and support each other in their events. All the best to our fencers – GO HIGH!

This coming Saturday we have another busy day with the following events happening across 2 venues:

  1. NSWSFL U19 Epee Team Premiership Round 1:
    Venue: Sydney Boys High School
    Start Time: 8:00am to 12:00pm
    All available Epee fencers not fencing in the NSWFA event must attend to help with reffing/supporting as we are hosting this event!
  2. NSWFA AJ Rae U15 Team Championships (All weapons):
    Venue:
     NSW Fencing Centre
    Men’s Epee Start Time: 8:00am
    Men’s Foil Start Time: 8:00am
    Men’s Sabre Start Time: 10:30am

Monday 05/06/2023 – Afterschool Squad Training starts and finishes earlier due to Parent Teacher Interviews

Hi all,

As the school day finishes earlier at 2pm on Monday 05/06/2023 due to Parent Teacher Interviews, Squad Training will start earlier at 2:30pm and will run for 2 hours until 4:30pm.

Sprints training for Development Fencers is still running as per normal scheduled training time. I do not run the Sprints program so have no control over when the training starts and finishes.

    Venue: Barker College (Rosewood Pavilion)

  3. NSWFA U13 Individual Sabre School Championships:
    Venue: NSW Fencing Centre
    U13 Men’s Sabre – Start time: 10:30am
