We achieved our best results to date at the National School Teams Championships over the weekend: Gold in Epee, Gold in Sabre and Silver in Foil!
Well done to all of the boys involved and thank you for your hard work this season!
Extra special thanks to Dean Nguyen who helped me with supervising and driving duties. I am very grateful for your assistance and company over the weekend.

The Senior Foil, Epee and Sabre teams will be travelling to Brisbane this weekend for the National School Teams Championships.
Mr Dean Nguyen and I will be supervising the boys on the trip. The draft itinerary can be found here: Brisbane 2017 Itinerary
We wish the boys a safe journey and the best of luck in their competitions.
Please contact me if there are any issues or questions.
Mr Dat Huynh
I have scheduled a special training session for year 7s this Saturday 10/06/17. This session is an opportunity for our new fencers to learn more about Epee and Sabre fencing. Year 7 fencers will need to choose a weapon preference next year when they continue fencing in year 8 – subject to places available in the Epee, Sabre and Foil program. This session is to give them them a bit of practical experience to help them make their preference selections next season.
Our Epee and Sabre coaches, Ted, Tony and Garry, will be present to help me run the Saturday session.
Training will be held at the COLA (Cricket nets) from 9am to 12pm. I will be asking for a few student mentors in Epee and Sabre to assist the coaches and me on the day. Please register your interest to attend as a mentor with Mr Huynh by Wednesday.
If you plan to fence in the U15 Individual Foil School Championship this Saturday and you’re going to be away from training this week because of Music camp, please see me today (Tuesday) or send me an email at your earliest convenience so I can register you for the competition. My deadline for submitting school entries is Thursday.
Equipment can be borrowed today at lunchtime or after school on Friday when you return to school. If you’re picking up equipment on Friday, please be at the cricket nets at 3:30pm sharp.
This coming Saturday will be busy as we have the U15 Foil Teams Premiership #3, the Individual School Championships for Senior Boys Epee and Sabre, and also the first of the U13 ABC Foil competition on and it will be a brand new experience for our year 7s. Student mentors will be there to help assist our newbies throughout the competition and I wish all of our fencers the best of luck and enjoy the day!
Fencers, mentors and ref lists are up on the RESULTS 2017 page. A gentle reminder for all of our fencers to make sure you arrive an hour before the start time to sign in and warm up. Mentors must also be present an hour before start time to assist the year 7s. Refs can turn up 30 minutes before start time.
Proper competition attire/uniform is expected for all of our SBHS fencers, mentors and refs. Please see UNIFORM FOR COMPETITIONS page for more info.
Have fun on Saturday!
Please be aware that the NSWFA Competition Calendar has been revised and updated as of 14/05/2017, due to the feedback they received from the extra long competition day we had on Saturday.

I have updated our SBHS Fencing Google Calendar to reflect the changes.
Please let me know if there are any issues or questions.
For the first time in forever, we have achieved a significant milestone of qualifying for the National School Teams Championships in all three weapons this year! Congratulations to all of the boys involved!
Please visit “Results 2017” for more info on results.
This Saturday we have the start of the U15 School Teams Foil Premiership and the AJ Rae & RA White National School Teams Qualifiers.
I have been informed that as of noon today, there has not been another team entered into the Senior Epee competition so our Senior Epee team is not required to attend (we will automatically qualify). I still encourage our Epee team to turn up to support our school and just in case there is a last minute entry.
For team lists and details, please check the “Results 2017” page.
Good luck to all of our fencers this weekend!
I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Lachlan Ho (yr9) for winning Bronze in the Marconi Cup last Sunday! Well done, Lachy!
All first year beginner Foil fencers are expected to attend the training session this Saturday at the SBHS COLA (cricket nets) from 9am to 11am. This is an opportunity for students to cover rules and routines for electric fencing to prepare them for competitions.
