Saturday 20/08/2021 – NSWSFL U16 Foil Individual Competition – Hosted by SICR

PLEASE NOTE: This will be the last event for the program’s season as there is insufficient demand for further events and school supervision resources cannot be secured beyond this event.

This coming Saturday we have the NSWSFL U16 Foil Individual Event – hosted by Saint Ignatius’ College Riverview.

As this event runs outside the official Fencing training season, it is voluntary for our fencers to attend.

For the list of participating SBHS fencers, start times and additional details about the event, please visit:

Upcoming NSWSFL Individual Foil Events

Forwarding information from Edwin Lapitan (SAC) regarding the upcoming NSWSFL Individual Foil Events:

Thanks to St Ignatius College, Riverview (c/o Andrew S) and Barker College (c/o Steve A), the NSWSFL is able to host the following Inter-school Individual Foil competition on these 3 weekends (Edwin Lapitan (SAC) is managing these individual events):

DateEventAge GroupsVenueProvide No of FencersSend Names of Fencers
20 AugInter-school Individual FoilU16SIC-Riverview11 Aug18 Aug
3 SepInter-school Individual FoilU14Barker College25 Aug1 Sep
10 SepInter-school Individual FoilU16Barker College1 Sep8 Sep

Start time will be 8:00am (we will send venue details a week before the events). So far, our school list is as follows:

  • Barker College
  • St Aloysius’ College
  • St Ignatius College, Riverview
  • Sydney Boys HS
  • Sydney Grammar School
  • Wenona School
  • The Hills Grammar School

We are targeting a field of a maximum of 40 fencers for each competition day so it would be great to put an initial cap of 6 fencers per school. If some schools are not able to use the allocation of 6 fencers, we can hand over “unused” slots to other schools who wish to field more than 6 fencers. If you have a lot of Under 16 fencers, an option would be to send some to the first event on 20 Aug and then another set to the second event on 10 Sep. We would appreciate if you can please let me know your numbers and fencer names using the schedule above.

Format will be as follows:

  • Mixed genders in both poules and DE
  • Regular poules – 5 hits, 3 mins
  • Depending on the numbers and timing, we may promote to the DEs only a complete tableau (e.g., if there are 40 fencers and we’re running late, we will only promote 32).
  • U16 DEs will be 15 points, 3 periods x 3 mins
  • U14 DEs will be 10 points, 2 periods x 3 mins
  • No match for 3rd place (i.e., there will be equal thirds)

Please note: As the SBHS Fencing training season is over, this event is voluntary for our fencers.

Please email Mr Huynh ASAP and by Wednesday 3pm at the latest if you would like to participate and indicate which event you want to attend. If there are more fencers interested than the positions allocated, slots will be determined by internal ranking data. Gear can be borrowed from the COLA during Lunch 1 on Thursday.

End of 2022 Season Survey

Hi all,

As we are wrapping up the end of another Fencing season, we ask that you please take some time to provide us with some valuable feedback so that we’re able to improve the program for next season.

The survey will only take a few minutes and the Google Form link can be found here:
https://forms.gle/n4Y5WqYTG1yKoNb47

You’ll be required to sign into your Google account to ensure one response per person (and you can edit your response afterwards if you need to). The survey is completed anonymously as your email address is not collected.

The survey will remain open for the next few weeks (until the end of term), but please consider completing it ASAP so that we can review and start planning next year’s program to meet the needs of our school community.

Thank you very much for your time and assistance and may the Force be with you!

All borrowed School Fencing Gear to be returned by Wednesday 10/08/2022

As this is the second last week of the Fencing season, we ask all fencers to make sure all borrowed gear is cleaned and returned by next Wednesday 10/08/2022 at the latest.

All beginner fencers who have borrowed personal protective equipment (PPE) are reminded to wash and dry their gear this weekend to ensure all equipment is clean and dry when checking them back into the school’s possession. Mr Huynh will sign off your loan contract when all items have been inspected and cleared.

Please note: Damp and/or sweaty gear will lead to mould and fungus growth when they are stored over the long summer season!

All Squad Fencers are to return all borrowed school electric gear by next Monday’s Squad training session (08/08/2022).

All fencers must also remove their gear and sports bags from the storage locker in the COLA before Thursday’s last training session.

Mr Huynh will be following up on any students who fail to comply with extra sets of burpees.

Saturday 06/08/2022 – NSWSFL Foil Team Premiership Round 3

All Foil Squad fencers are expected to attend and be ready to fence/referee/support.

Saturday 06/08/2022 – Urgent Update for NSWSFL Foil Team Premiership fixture 3 hosted at Barker College

I was very recently made aware that SAC will not be able to field enough fencers for the final match scheduled for Week 4 (13/08/2022) due to a conflicting school event (Father Son Camp) that weekend.

As such, and with consultation with SAC and BARK, we are moving the SAC v SBHS matches to Week 3 (06/08/2022) that Barker is hosting to complete the Foil Team Premiership fixtures.

SBHS will provide an additional 3 pistes to make 6 total pistes available to use at Barker on the day. We are able to run the SAC v SBHS bouts concurrently with BARK v SGS during Match 1 on the day.

The following revised match schedule is proposed for Saturday 06/08/2022 (week 3, Term 3):
Match 1 (8am – 9:15am): BARK v SGS and SAC v SBHS
Match 2 (9:30am – 10:45am):  SAC v SGS
Match 3 (11am – 12:30am): BARK v SBHS

All SBHS Foil Squad Fencers will be expected to attend to ensure we provide sufficient referees and support our teams.
We will be able to conclude the Foil Team Premiership on the day and will proceed to awarding medals right after the final match finishes.
A consequence of this update is that the BBQ sausage sizzle planned for week 4 at SBHS will be cancelled. We will aim to bring it back with improved planning for next season.

Thank you, everyone, for your patience and cooperation.
Please let me know if there are any issues or questions.

Cheers,

Dat Huynh
