As restrictions are lifting and we are coordinating with NSWFA for potential competitions in Term 3, all experienced fencers (year 8 onwards) who wish to participate in competitions are advised to attend the following Fencing training sessions next week as part of Squad tryouts:
- Senior Fencers on Wednesday 1-3pm
- Junior Fencers on Thursday 3:30pm to 5pm
Squad selection is required if you wish to represent SBHS in the competitions.

So year 7s aren’t allowed to tryout for the squads?
Hi Pranav,
Year 7 fencers spend their first season getting inducted in the program and must show they are capable with safety, fitness and specific fencing skills required before they can try out for a representative fencing squad.
Squads are selected on merit based ranking (e.g through internal comps) so a year 7 student is unlikely to make squads unless they have prior fencing experience. Instead, year 7s participate in an internal competition at the end of the season to determine your ranking and are invited to try out for squads next season.
